New Year's Eve - 2001
Another fun ride at the Chicamauga Battlefield
(1/02)
Three of our friends from Roanoke, VA (Elizabeth, Bruce and Lisa), visited over the holidays and, along with my wonderful friend, Carole, from Chattanooga, and my son Parker, we packed up the horses to brave the cold for a New Year's Eve Connemara Trail Ride at the Chickamauge Battlefield in Georgia. This was Bruce Knappe's second time on a horse and he rode Ice, a retired TB gelding, borrowed from Carole, that she got from the "ReRun" TB adoption program. Bruce's wife and our dear friend, Lisa, rode our mare Ladybug, who just returned from a fall season with the Benton girls in Knoxville. Lisa, brave as always, cantered through the fields and even jumped a time or two! Elizabeth has been visiting since December and has had her horse, Sparrow, boarded at FFC, so they were a very convenient pair to come along to enjoy the ride as well. Carole rode her newest Connemara, Sheamus, who had recently returned from a local natural horsemanship trainer; he handled the water-crossing/bridge tunnel in fine style:-) Parker rode Hope and I rode Queen, both FFC broodmares by Donna Duckworth's stallion, Roary. I must say that I have never been with a group of better behaved ponies; in spite of the cold and the long time off they had all been enjoying, everyone was on their best behavior. The ride got pretty cold by the time it was all over and we all looked forward to that hot cup of coffee afterwards; nevertheless, we all enjoyed the experience and what a wonderful way it was to wind down the year!
